I’m a writer, speaker and book mentor who took a long path to publication. Ten years spent in obscurity. Years and miles of unpublished words. I’m the poster child for Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers, where he shares the secret of “genius.” (Here’s the unglamorous truth: Genius comes from 10,000 hours of practice.)
So I wrote my 10,000 hours, then started finding success in small venues–regional magazines, a local paper, then national magazines. In 2004 I started a blog and have been faithfully blogging ever since.
Twelve years after I started, an agent signed me, and I sold two books. I’ve currently published twelve books (both nonfiction and fiction) with various publishers. Recently I dipped my toe into the ocean of epublishing and published several ebooks. And I’ve experimented with print on demand (POD) via CreateSpace.
In light of all that experience, I’m uniquely qualified to come alongside you wherever you are in the publishing journey. I’ve taught at writing conferences all over the nation as a major morning track speaker, a workshop presenter and a keynoter. I know the ins and outs of nonfiction writing, including how to create one of those pesky, scary proposals. I know how to spin a compelling story. And as a closet entrepreneur, I know how to help you make money as a writer through social media, blogging, and creating great content.
In short, I love to see others succeed in their writing journey. I get excited when new writers improve their craft or find new markets. I love to mentor writers toward publication, no matter what form that publication takes. It’s all about getting our unique us-shaped message out into the world in the most clear, concise, compelling way.
